Pragma Strengthens Asia-Pacific Presence with Appointment

Three months into Mohamad Ashraf Bin Zainal Abidin’s (Ashraf) time with Pragma, CEO David Stephenson recently caught up with him to hear how things are progressing and discuss the opportunities ahead as the company continues to grow its presence across Asia Pacific.
Ashraf joined Pragma as Business Development Manager for the APAC region earlier this year, supporting the development of customer and partner relationships and introducing the company’s specialist downhole technologies to more organisations across the region.
His appointment comes at an important stage in Pragma’s growth. With its full suite of coiled tubing technologies now commercial and in use across the Eastern Hemisphere, the company is increasing its focus on accelerating the international adoption of its well-barrier technologies.
At the heart of this is M-Bubble, Pragma’s ultra-high expansion metal bridge plug. Designed to address complex downhole plugging, sealing and isolation challenges, the technology can support applications including water shut-off, zonal isolation, plug and abandonment and carbon capture and storage.
M-Bubble is already a commercial technology, with a growing number of deployments completed and a strong pipeline of activity planned over the coming months.
Ashraf brings more than 12 years of oil and gas experience, specialising in well intervention and completion. He began his career with Weatherford as an Applications Engineer, supporting offshore downhole tool operations and preparing technical and commercial proposals before progressing to a Project Coordinator role.
He subsequently joined Interwell, where he played a key role in developing its completion business across Southeast Asia and securing projects in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. He was later appointed Sales Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, leading teams across intervention, completion and other service lines.
David said, “Three months into Ashraf’s time with Pragma, it’s clear we made the right decision in entrusting him with growing our APAC business. His enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism are exactly what defines us.”
He added, “We’re seeing growing traction for M-Bubble as customers recognise what the technology can do for their operations and the value it can offer. Ashraf’s industry knowledge and extensive regional experience will be invaluable as we bring M-Bubble and our wider technology portfolio to more customers across Asia Pacific.”
Ashraf said, “Joining Pragma has been an exciting journey. I’m grateful for the trust and opportunity to grow our APAC business, and I look forward to building strong relationships with our customers and partners while bringing Pragma’s innovative solutions to the region.”
